Shiney Row Male Voice Choir exists to allow members to ‘rejoice in singing’  for our many and various audiences. The Choir has a long-standing history of singing within our community and is well known our high quality performance. We are a friendly group of like-minded singers and always welcome new members, so please read on! We would be delighted to see you at one of our rehearsals in the near future.

"I have just taken up a fantastic opportunity to lead this wonderful choir and would be delighted if you wanted to join us this season." Carl Heron, Musical Director

We rehearse from 7.00 to 9.00pm every Friday night, September to May, now usually at St Aidan's Parish Centre, New Herrington, DH4 7LZ. The two hours are directed by Carl, mostly in preparing to sing for future concerts, as a whole choir and in sections. While the Choir does not enter competitions, we take pride in our performances and constantly strive to sing well. Our teamwork is strengthened  by serious practice, at rehearsal and home, as well as friendly chat when we are together. SRMVC is a warm and people-centred group of people. Some rehearsals take place at venues the night before a concert so that we are well prepared - the Annual Celebrity Concert is a good example.

"Stephen kept our Choir going and now that it is over to Carl we are keen to follow his lead." Noel, Bass

Usually we perform every month. Our music is a mixture of old and new, chosen to highlight the singing potential of members and to please our audiences. Bob Chicken, our highly talented accompanist, is there to support our singing. Members come from the local area, coast to dales. We practise with music at rehearsals and perform with and without music sheets. You don't have to be able to read music to sing with us, nor experience of singing in a choir. What we are looking for is your enjoyment of singing and eagerness to join and sing with us.

'It was a workmate that showed me how to join the Choir 51 years ago and I have never looked back." Bobbie, 1st Tenor

The Choir is regularly invited to sing with other choirs at high-profile special events in special places that include Royal Albert Hall, London, Usher Hall, Edinburgh, Sage, Gateshead. We also join with other choirs and celebrity performers for special concerts. So our season may be a varied and exciting mix of concerts, all adding to the fun and enjoyment of singing with the choir.

"This is a very friendly choir, welcoming and good to sing with. I joined from another choir and made the right choice." Alan, Baritone

Joining the choir is a simple and enjoyable process. We ask you to complete the form below with as much detail as you can. Ron, Wilson, Honorary Secretary, will then contact you and take it from there. If you'd like to chat with him, or fellow members, he will arrange for that to happen. Ron will invite you to attend a Friday night rehearsal so that you can meet the choir, experience what we do and sing along with us!

"I'm probably the youngest Choir member and still at university. I enjoy my singing and the Choir." Josh, 2nd Tenor

So, now that you are interested, please complete the form (see right) and submit your details.
